12.8 million Binance users' personal information is rumored to be sold on the dark web! Binance refutes false information
Recently, an article on a dark web forum claimed that Binance leaked personal information of 12.8 million users, which reportedly contained sensitive information such as name, email address, phone number, birthday, and physical address. However, Binance quickly responded that this was untrue news.
Binance leaks user data?
According to Decrypt, a user named "Firebear" claimed on a forum related to data breaches that he had obtained a personal information database of Binance users and claimed that the data was leaked in August.
The article mentions that the leaked data includes users' "last name, first name, email, phone number, birthday, address, postal code". The publisher also provided partially blurred data samples and stated that this information can be 'partially or fully sold'. The user invited interested parties to contact, which raised concerns about the potential misuse of these sensitive data.
However, Binance denies these allegations, and a Binance spokesperson told the media:
This is fake. Our security team has conducted an investigation and confirmed that this is not a Binance data breach incident
Be cautious of potential fishing hazards
However, despite Binance denying rumors of data breaches, cybersecurity experts still urge users to remain vigilant. Blockaid researcher Oz Tamir warned in a media interview that although this incident may be fake, such incidents often provide opportunities for phishing attacks and account theft scams. He suggests that users enable two factor authentication and remain alert to any unexpected communication to avoid potential threats.
Even if this leak is fake, it is still important to remain vigilant. Scammers may use this personal information to impersonate Binance or other trusted entities, attempting to deceive users into controlling their accounts
Hacken Service Director Luciano Ciattaglia expressed doubts about the alleged leak. He pointed out that Binance is known for its powerful security protocol, and personally identifiable information (PII) is protected by multiple layers, making it one of the most secure assets on the platform. He believes that this accusation is likely a scam, which has occurred in similar incidents.
